Are parents leaning toward more casual clothes? Or do they like to dress up their kids?

I was wondering the other day about the trend toward more casually dressed kids. I recently heard about a wedding where the family brought their kid, dressed in a tuxedo t-shirt and shorts! No, I do not expect the poor kid to be in tails, unless he was the ring bearer or something, but one would assume they would know PANTS were in order!?
I dress my kids as comfortably as I can, but I also make sure they are stylish and appropriate (appropriate for their age as well as the occasion) What do you do? What do you wish you could do? Are your kids too old to tell them what to wear, now? Do you set guidelines or just not buy anything you don't like? Tell me!

My son is only 10 months, but I have discovered this quandary early on.
His first wedding he was only 3 months, and it was summer, so we went for the eponymous bubble suit in light blue. Then, at 7 months, a funeral. Too big for the bubble suits, I dressed him in gray pants, onesie, sweater vest. But what about shoes? He didn't wear shoes at the time, would always take them off, but it was cold...we ended up with just socks after the shoes came off rather quickly.
My quandary is this--for more formal social functions like church do you dress infant boys up like little men or like babies? I opt for the first, but often feel out of place when others bring their sons in almost PJ type stuff. What gives?
I think the trend is more casual nowadays, but it's fun to get dressed up sometimes. Luckily I have a little girl who loves to be dressed up, but my little boys don't really care what they're wearing; our church is somewhat casual; so we can all get dressed up if we want or go casual; it's nice to have the option not to have to all dress up all the time; it's more comfortable. there are times that it's appropriate to dress a certain way; I guess it all depends on where you're going and whom you are going there with...for my little kids I just make sure whatever they are wearing they are comfy; then they'll be happy and have more fun...love your blog and store...
